Manipur: More than 1 lakh persons penalized for violating COVID-19 guidelines

IMPHAL, MAY 8 (NNN): Continuing the crackdown on violators of COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions, the Manipur police detained as many as 307 persons and slapped fines before releasing them after warning on Saturday. Altogether Rs 96,600 was collected as fine during the day, a police statement said. Till date, the police have penalized 1,38,746 persons and collected Rs 1,98,03,900 as fine. The police have been cracking down on violators of the COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions issued by the state government and the state Disaster Management Authority in connection with COVID-19 pandemic since the day the nationwide lockdown to contain spread of the viral disease imposed in March last year.
