Kohima, September 21 (MExN): A delegation of Manipur government officials undertook a two-day study visit to Nagaland on September 18–19, to study the implementation of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in the State, with a focus on the Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS).
The visit aimed to gain insights into Nagaland’s institutional framework, service delivery, technology, financing and sustainability measures under CMHIS, a press release said.
UHC seeks to ensure access to quality essential health services for all without financial hardship. India has reaffirmed its commitment to UHC through the Alma-Ata Declaration of 1978, the Declaration of Astana of 2018 and Sustainable Development Goal 3.8, which calls for achieving UHC by 2030.
The Department of Health & Family Welfare, through the Nagaland Health Protection Society (NHPS), implements AB PM-JAY and CMHIS. Since 2022, CMHIS has extended coverage to all bona fide citizens of Nagaland not covered under AB PM-JAY, thereby strengthening financial protection and advancing UHC, the release said.
“The visit facilitated exchange of experiences and best practices between the two States and reaffirmed their commitment to continued knowledge-sharing and inter-state collaboration to strengthen public health insurance and UHC initiatives,” Thavaseelan K, IAS, CEO of Nagaland Health Protection Society said in the release.
