Manipur Police arrests one with 14 gold biscuits

A team of Narcotic and Affairs of Border (NAB), Manipur Police arrested one person with 14 gold biscuits suspected to have been smuggled from Myanmar.  According to the police, the arrested person was identified as Md Fakharuddin Ali Hamad (44) and allegedly a member of the trans-national gang of smugglers dealing with gold and drugs smuggling from Myanmar to other states of India through Manipur. The NAB team made the arrest on September 30, around 7:00 pm, the police said in a press release on Saturday.

A total of 14 gold biscuits weighing 2.3 kg and two mobile handsets were confiscated from his possession, the police said. He was arrested by the NAB team conducting frisking and checking at North AOC acting on information about the movement of some trans-national gang members along NH-2. The gold biscuits were found concealed inside his socks, the police also said.

On spot verification, the police came to know that he belonged to a trans-national gang of smugglers dealing with gold and drugs smuggling from Myanmar to other states of India through Manipur.  According to the police, the arrested person also revealed the name of his gang leader and other members while disclosing that under the command of the gang leader he had smuggled gold and other illegal items like contraband drugs.

While checking his mobile phones, the police revealed that many incriminating photos and messages including photos of gold biscuits and illegal drugs were found in his whatsApp application as being sent by his gang leader and associates.  It is suspected that this trans-national gang has been smuggling huge quantities of illegal goods from Myanmar to various parts of India, the police. He was later handed over to the Imphal police station along with the seized items after lodging a case for further investigation, the police added.
