Manipur poll: Over 15,000 licensed arms deposited at police stations

More than 15,000 licensed arms have been deposited at police stations in view of ensuing elections in Manipur, informed State’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Rajesh Agrawal on January 20. 

Addressing a press conference in Imphal, he expressed that strict enforcement from the police has enabled to contain the pre-poll violence in Manipur.

So far, a total of 54321 defacements in government, public properties and unauthorised defacements in private properties have been identified and corrected, he said. 

Active 15 enforcement agencies have opened the control rooms and seized Rs 50 lakh in cash, Rs 14 lakh worth liquor, Rs 26.55 crore worth drugs and Rs 1.41 crore worth other items as gold so far, the CEO informed. 

Under various sections of CrPC, the Superintendents of Police of different districts have bound down 1430 persons, he added. 

 Agrawal also shared on the COVID-19 norms to be followed as issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI) and said that the ban have been extended till January 22, 2022 on road show, pad-yatra, cycle/bike/vehicle rally and procession. 

Indoor meetings are allowed with maximum participants of 50 as fixed by SDMA, he said. 

Each political party/candidate shall furnish an undertaking in the application form under Suvidha that it shall abide by all the extant instructions/guidelines in regard to COVID norms, he added.  

Election agents/ polling agents/counting agents without double dose vaccination shall not be allowed and between 8 pm and 8 am, no rallies and public meetings akin to campaign curfew shall be allowed on any campaign day, he informed. 

 "Nukkad Sabhas/meetings" will not be allowed on roads or streets or corners, the CEO added.
