Manipur receives 50 oxygen concentrators sent by Centre

The Manipur government on Sunday received 50 oxygen concentrators sent by the Union ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The oxygen concentrators were brought to Imphal by a special flight of the Indian Air Force landed at Imphal Airport today, an official source said.

The Centre provided the oxygen concentrators to meet the medical oxygen required in the healthcare centres of the state. Like in the other states, hospitals in the state are also facing medical oxygen shortage. The oxygen concentrators received on Sunday will be supplied to the hospitals across the state, the source disclosed.

Meanwhile, a private hospital in Manipur reserved five of its 100-bedded dedicated COVID-19 block for frontline workers including media persons.

Raj Medicity hospital in Imphal’s North AOC has been running a dedicated Covid care block since the viral infection hit the state last year. 

The 45-bedded Covid care facility block was upgraded to a 100-bedded block with 25 of them with ICU facility on Sunday. Managing director of the hospital, H Rajen Singh said that of the 100 beds, the hospital authority reserved five beds for treatment if any of the frontline workers including media persons is exposed to the virus.

They will be treated free of cost, the managing director said, in a statement.

15 COVID deaths, Infection tally crosses 35,000-mark
Meanwhile the State reported the highest ever single-day COVID-19 related death cases on Sunday. According to the Health department, 15 persons died in the past 24 hours due to COVID-19 related issues. This update took Manipur’s COVID-19 related casualty tally to 476.

The Health department also said that a total of 579 fresh cases of the disease reported in the past 24 hours took the overall coronavirus caseload since the start of the pandemic to 35,354. The daily report of the state Health department updated Sunday at 5 pm showed 15 more persons succumbed to the virus related illnesses over the past 24 hours, taking the overall casualty tally to 476.  

The infection tally also crossed 35,000-mark as the 579 fresh positive cases took the overall infection tally to 35,354. The tally included 30,598 recoveries, adding the 135 patients discharged upon recuperation today. The State’s active cases rose to 4,280 and the recovery rate declined to 86.54%, as per the daily update report.

As reported by the COVID-19 Common Control Room, of the 15 deaths reported in the past 24 hours, seven were in Imphal West, six in Imphal East district and one each in Churachandpur and Kakching districts.

Of the 579 fresh cases of the disease detected upon testing of 3,164 samples, eight were personnel of the Central security forces and of the 571 fresh cases among the general population, 197 were reported in Imphal West and 191 in Imphal East district. 

Thoubal district reported 42 new cases, 40 in Churachandpur district 37 in Kakching district, 34 in Bishnupur district, eight in Kangpokpi district, six in Ukhrul, five in Tengnoupal, three each in Kamjong and Noney districts, two each in Senapati and Tamenglong districts and one in Chandel district.

Analysis of the update report showed a grim situation of the COVID-19 second wave in the seven districts where a nine-day-long curfew had already been imposed to break the chain of spread. Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur Thoubal, Kakching, Churachandpur and Ukhrul are under curfew since May 8.
