Manipur resumes COVID-19 screening at entry points

State's active case rises to 97 with 22 new cases in 24 hours

Thermal screening of people entering Manipur started again in view of the rising cases of COVID-19 in the last few days, an official source said on Thursday.

It also said that following an order from the Health department, the screening of people visiting the state started today.

As per the order, screening of all passengers coming by air resumed at Imphal airport after a long hiatus. 

The screening has also resumed in other surface entry points –Jiri gate in Jiribam district, Mao Gate in Senapati district, Behang bordering with Myanmar and Sinzawl (bordering Mizoram) in Churachandpur district, international gate no.1 and 2 in Moreh bordering Myanmar in Tengnoupal district and Nambisa in Kamjong district bordering with Myanmar.

The Health director also asked the health officials in these entry points to screen those Army and paramilitary personnel entering the state without fail.

The steps to resume the screening for COVID-19 in these entry points has been taken up in view of the rising trend of daily COVID-19 tally in the state in the last few days.

The state has been witnessing a rise in the daily tally of COVID-19 in the last few days. 

As many as 97 cases, including today's 22 new cases reported in the last 24 hours, were detected in the state in the last one week (from July 1) even though no death related to the virus has been reported in the state since March 18 last.

On Wednesday, the state recorded a daily tally of 22 with 8.1% test positivity.

An equal number of cases were reported today (Thursday) with a 7.5% test positivity rate.

The latest bulletin of the state health department said that 22 fresh cases were detected upon testing of 295 samples in the last 24 hours. The test positivity rate of the day was 7.5%.

It said that nine new cases were reported in Imphal West district, five in Imphal East, three in Kakching district, two cases each in Churachandpur and Thoubal district and one in Ukhrul districts.

Adding the fresh cases, the infection tally of the state now reached 1,37,367 while the fatality toll remained at 2,120 with no death related to the disease reported on the day.

Four people were discharged upon recovery on the day and it took the recovery tally of the state to 1,35,150. The recovery rate of the state declined further to 98.39%.

Meanwhile, the total number of doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered in the state so far rose to 29,75,875 with 3,501 more people inoculated on Wednesday.

In the state, out of 15,96,528 people who inoculated with the first dose of the vaccine, 12,63,083 of them received the second dose so far. As many as 1,16,264 people have also jabbed with the precautionary dose, the Health department said.
