Imphal, May 2 (NNN): All Tribal Students’ Union, Manipur (ATSUM) and the Democratic Student Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) alleged today that the “modus operandi in recruitment” of the present government is enough to testify that the culture of “piecemeal” recruitment is advocated to further aggravate the congenial atmosphere in health sectors especially in Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Science (JNIMS), Imphal. Driving home their points, the two student bodies said, “It is quite apparent from the fact that all vacant posts of professor in eight subjects namely Psychiatry, Radio-Diagnosis, Radiotherapy, Forensic Medicine, Pharmacology, General Medicine and PMR had been approved to fill up by the government on November 28, 2017 but only six posts were advertised on January 4, 2018 leaving other two departments for reason best known to the JNIMS authority.” According to ATSUM and DESAM, the whole process of recruitment is quite “skeptical and dubious as it is evident from the decision taken by the State cabinet meeting held on April 16, 2018, wherein only Radiology (Radio Diagnosis) and Forensic Medicine were agreed to be filled up.” The two student bodies then recalled that the 25th governing council meeting of JNIMS Society held on May 23, 2017 also decided to fill up professors only in the department of Radiology (Radio- diagnosis) and Forensic Medicine even though many posts of professors are lying vacant in other subjects. “…There are no rational answers because the two departments are smoothly functioning with the present faculty. At present, professors in the department of Radiology and Forensic Medicine are not required as the Renewal Inspection for under-graduate course (MBBS) in JNIMS by the Medical Council of India will be held in the year 2020,” they said. The two student bodies then mentioned that there are many doctors from Manipur Health Services, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal and other states of India who joined JNIMS since 2009 in a hope to fulfill the desire of the Manipur government in making JNIMS a full-fledged medical college. “At present many Associate Professors who are now working in JNIMS will be eligible to be promoted to the post of professor in their respective department from August 2018 onward,” they stated. “Thus, taking cognizance of their yeoman services and sacrifices rendered by them in making JNIMS to this present level, the JNIMS authority and the Government of Manipur may wait for few months to enable those eligible Associate Professors to be promoted to next higher post as per the vacant position of the institute.”
