Manipur People Against Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016 (MANPAC) on September 27 announced launching of mass movement against the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 (CAB) across Manipur from October 3.

The mass movement is to be launched as per a decision taken in a meeting of the North East Forum for Indigenous People (NEFIP) held in Kohima (Nagaland) on September 25 last, a statement of MANPAC signed by its convenor, Yumnamcha Dilipkumar said.

NEFIP has decided to launch the mass movement after no positive response came forth with regard to the  memorandums submitted by the forum to the Prime Minister of India through the Governors of the seven states of the region, the statement of MANPAC said.

"If no response comes forth despite the mass movement to be launched from October 3 onward, the Kohima meeting of NEFIP had decided that intense forms of protest will follow, the statement added.

MANPAC then appealed to the people of the state to extend their supports to the mass movement by participating in the movement.

The statement added that the Kohima meeting of the NEFIP while reaffirming its opposition to the CAB, decided to object the BJP-led NDA government’s “One Nation one Language” policy.

NEFIP affirmed to oppose any attempt made by the Union or state government to impose any language on the indigenous people, the statement of MANPAC added.
