Man’s hand severed in gruesome assault

In a rather gruesome incident, a man had his head struck by a dao and his left hand severed from the wrist on Tuesday evening at the Assam-Nagaland border village of Merapani under Bhandari sub-division in Wokha district.  

The victim was identified as Chenio Ovung, 40, of Lotsu Village under Sanis Police Station while the two accused were identified as brothers Kania and Goti – residents of Merapani village. The two accused along with their family have gone absconding following the incident.  

While the exact cause behind the violent incident remains unknown, Police informed that the victim was returning from across the border when he was dragged inside a house and had his head struck by a dao. The man was rendered unconscious from the blow and later found his hand severed at the wrist, Police added.  

A case in this connection has been registered at the Bhandari Police Station and investigations are ongoing. The victim meanwhile was shifted to Dimapur Civil Hospital late Tuesday night.
