Sendenyu, May 14 (MExN): Parliamentary Secretary for PWD (Housing), Er. Levi Rengma today pointed out that the number of educated unemployed youths is increasing in Nagaland and that it will be impossible to absorb all job seekers in government service.
Inaugurating the Village Council Hall of Sendenyu under Tseminyu sub-division, the MLA stated that apart from Government jobs, there are many avenues available to sustain one’s livelihood; however, the problem is all educated youths are not employable as many are not trained to handle the jobs that are available.
Too much dependence on the Government jobs, dependence on parents, lack of focus, lack of work culture and entrepreneurial spirit also result in lost opportunities for most Naga youths, he added.
Citing the survey conducted by the Directorate of Evaluation titled “Evaluation study on employment opportunities forgone by Nagas and employment of Non-Nagas in the State of Nagaland,” he pointed out that income level of many unskilled non-Naga employees is higher than that of many Government employees in Nagaland.
The survey found that out of 13,380 business establishment units in Dimapur, Kohima and Mokokchung run by Nagas and Non-Nagas, the total workforce of Non-Nagas is 45,815 generating an annual income of Rs. 450.60 crores. “So where is employment problem in Nagaland when look at the figures,” he asked.
He therefore urged the gathering to look beyond government jobs with dignity of work by focusing on work culture and entrepreneurial spirit.
The Parliamentary Secretary also lauded the initiative for building the council hall through contributions from various sources and by individuals.
Additional Chief Secretary & Development Commissioner, R. Benchilo Thong, Tseminyu Additional Deputy Commissioner Vikhweno M. Meratsü, and Njilo Kemp, Chief Engineer, Irrigation & Flood Control also spoke on the occasion.
The function was chaired by N. Zensilo Kent, Secretary, Sendenyu Village Chipwen Union.
