Dimapur | December 16
The tenth annual function of Maple Tree School took place at the school’s premises located in Kashiram, Dimapur on December 16 with parents, teaching staff and guests in attendance.
In his address, Director of the school Sanen Imchen mentioned that the society today is suffering from a crisis of value deficit. “Traditionally, our society held values like hard work, honesty, respect and honour in the highest esteem,” he said. As such, the school attempts to inculcate values such as integrity, respect, responsibility, commitment and opportunity to its students so that they can be productive members of the society.
Apart from academic achievement, the school also provides a space for all-round development for each student so that they can become an independent and inquisitive learner. “Our focus has been to leverage learning not for one or a few but for all children,” he maintained. This is made possible with the help of the teachers who are given the flexibility of altering old learning methods to ensure a deeper understanding of concepts and build confidence in students.
He briefly shared the journey of Maple Tree School which began in the year 2011; brought about by the desire to do something for the community. “Looking back we are humbled by the journey we have been through,” he said. In addition, he opined that today education has a different set of imperatives for students to become independent. This is reflected in the job market as well where companies are hiring candidates based on adaptability and creativity. Along with the introduction of the New Education Policy, the school focuses on providing as many opportunities through various activities and events for children to develop these qualities, he said.
Ten years down the line the school has so far yielded 4 batches of Class 12 students. In addition, the 2020 JEE state topper was from the school along with the 2021 NET state topper and other Central examinations, he remarked.
A new academic block, school ground, cafeteria, multipurpose sports auditorium is also nearing completion including being among the first schools to have disabled friendly facilities, he said, while imploring the parents to continue supporting the school in all its endeavours in the days to come.
During the event, a host of performances were showcased by the students beginning with a Bollywood-inspired dance number by Grades 5 to 8 students. A ‘four seasons in one’ musical was performed by the youngest members of the school, nursery, LKG and UKG, besides other musical numbers by grades 1 to 12 students.
