Dimapur, September 17 (MExN): A weekly market shed constructed under National Panchayat Award 2020 at Vihokhu village was inaugurated by Kethosituo Sekhose, Project Director, DRDA Dimapur on September 17.
Vihokhu village was awarded with two national awards DDUPSP and NDRGGSP for its excellence in overall development of the village during 2020, stated a press release received here.
Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Sashaktikaran Puraskar (DDUPSP) is given to best performing Panchayats (District, Intermediate and Gram Panchayat) across the States/UTs in recognition of the good work that is done by PRIs at each level for improving delivery of services and public goods.
Nine thematic categories for GPs are Sanitation, Civic Services (Drinking Water, Street Light, infrastructure), Natural Resource Management, Marginalized section (Women, SC/ST, Disabled, Senior Citizen), Social Sector performance, Disaster Management, Community Based Organisations/Individuals taking voluntary actions to support GPs, Innovation in Revenue Generation and e-Governance.
Nanaji Deshmukh Rashtriya Gaurav Gram Sabha Puraskar (NDRGGSP) is given to Gram Panchayats/Village Councils for their outstanding contribution to the socio-economic development by involving Gram Sabhas.
Speaking on the occasion, PD Dimapur who graced the occasion as special guest said getting a national award is a great achievement and it was a recognition of being the best performing village in the country and added that the village must not stop there but must improve setting a standard for other villages not only in Nagaland but whole of the country to follow the benchmark.
He maintained the achievement of the village was a result of combined effort of all and also because of the good leadership of leaders in the village.
Kethosituo said that the villagers of Vihokhu must take it as a challenge to keep improving and make use of the asset purposefully for the benefit of all concerned.
Project Director viewed that it was imperative for villages to have master plan in order to allow more infrastructure development taking place.
Also speaking on the occasion, Phoishe Sema, BDO Kuhuboto RD Block enlightened the gathering of how Vihokhu village was chosen from among lakh of villages across the country as best performing village.
One major factor he stressed on was involvement of village council in the economic development activities of the village.
Proposing vote of thanks, Head GB of the village, Phukato Zhimomi said the achievement of the village was possible only because of constant guidance and support of officials and staff of concerned department.
Tsukti Jamir, DPO, Toniho Chophy, Executive Engineer, and Supong Pongen, AE, were other officials of DRDA Dimapur who were present at the program.
Inaugural function was chaired by Vitol Awomi, VDB secretary while Charlie Chophy, Pastor, VGBA and Kughato Awomi, Pastor, NCRC said prayers.
