May 9 storm cuts power supply to Mon and Longleng

MOKOKCHUNG, MAY 10 (MExN): Power supply to Mon and Longleng and parts of Mokokchung remained cut off following the rainstorm on May 9. The SDO (Transmission), Mokokchung Transmission Division, in a press release issued today, informed that the inclement weather affected the 66KV Mokokchung-Tuli-Naginimora-Tizit transmission line cutting supply to entire Mon and Longleng districts and also Changtongya and Tuli. “The Department is making all efforts to restore power supply at the earliest. Affected consumers are requested to kindly bear with the inconvenience,” the release said.  

IMD weather forecast

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast of inclement weather prevailing over the northeast region on May 10. A 5-day forecast, issued today, stated that “thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds” would likely prevail over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on May 10. The forecast for the next 4 days did not feature the northeast region except Sikkim. It predicts thunderstorm with wind speed reaching 50-70km/hour likely at isolated places over Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Sikkim and Odisha on May 13 and 14. As per the IMD forecast, the rains would subside during the intervening period in the northeast with storm clouds concentrating in isolated pockets over the coastal south and the northern regions of the country.
