MCCI to strictly check public utility projects

DIMAPUR, MARCH 9 (MExN): The Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce and Industries (MCCI) made a statement that despite adequate funds being provided by the state government, Mokokchung town over the years has not developed at par with other district headquarters in the state in terms of public utility infrastructure like roads, drainage system and footpaths.

“MCCI being an organization that is seriously committed to raising the quality of life is dismayed to learn the fact that funds sanctioned by the government for development of Mokokchung are being misused and misappropriated by certain heartless individuals,” said the press note issued by MCCI President and Information Secretary. It further alleged that “Crores of rupees are being sanctioned under the state plan works programme alone for development of Mokokchung most of which are siphoned off.”

It pointed out that PWD (Housing), PWD (R&B) and Urban Development departments should most judiciously and efficiently implement the developmental activities and contractors and beneficiaries who have been issued work orders should perform their duty and implement the work on the ground as is projected in their respective work estimates.

It further stated that respective Executive Engineers and District Urban Development Officer of the departments concerned must not release the bills unless tangible works are being done as per the approved work estimates. “The officers concerned will be held solely responsible if it is found that funds were being released without actual works being done. We will procure all the details through the Right to Information Act in the appropriate time,” it added.

MCCI also requested all the ward authorities under Mokokchung municipality and all citizens of Mokokchung that discrepancies found in the implementation of these works, if any, may be reported to the MCCI for due course of action. MCCI may be contacted in person during office hours or through telephone 0369-2229678 or email mkg.mcci3@gmail.com.
