MDCA Tourney: Brotherhood, Titans register easy wins

Mokokchung, January 12 (MExN): On Match Day 8 of the MDCA Inter Club T20 Cricket Tournament played at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, 9-time champions Brotherhood CC crushed Sovran Kings while defending champions Titans CC also had an easy outing against DC XI.   In the first match of the day, Brotherhood CC having won the toss and electing to bat and managed to put up on a formidable 161 runs losing 4 wickets in the 20 overs. Chubaodang top scored with 50 runs and Daniel Rai contributing 45 runs. For Sovran Kings, Lisosungkumi picked 2/20 in 4 overs.   In the run chase, Sovran Kings were bundled out in 17.5 overs for just 74 runs – losing by 68 runs. Maset top scored for Sovran Kings with 34 runs and Yutsung scored 16 runs. Aosashi was the pick of the bowlers as he ended with figures of 3/13 runs in 4 overs. Temsutoshi also took 3 wickets but was slightly more expensive giving away 24 runs from the 4 overs.   With this win, Brotherhood CC – who have the distinction of playing in the most number of finals as well as the club to win it the most numbers of time (9 times) – becomes the first team to make it to the knockout stage. In the second match of the day, defending champions Titans CC overwhelmed DC XI by 91 runs.   Batting first, Titans scored a daunting 174 runs – the highest of the tournament so far – losing 5 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Akumdong scored 73 runs – the highest individual score so far, while Resemdong chipped in with 31 runs. For DC XI, Daniel took 2/26 in 4 overs while Meren, Noksen and Sachin picked a wicket each.   Chasing the huge target, DC XI never got off to a good start as the Titans’ opening bowlers sent back the top order batsmen early on. For DC XI, only Throngdi (29 runs) and Meren (13 runs) could reach double digit scores before being eventually bowled out for 84 runs in just 17.2 overs – giving the champions a 91 run win.   The win also ensured Titans qualification for the Quarterfinals which will begin from January 17 onward. Titans’ Longsasunep was the pick of the bowlers claiming 3 wickets while conceding a meager 6 runs in 4 overs.
