MOKOKCHUNG, JANUARY 17 (MExN): The first two quarter final matches of the ongoing MDCA Inter Club T20 Cricket tournament was played here today with defending champions Titans CC and homeboys Züngamedem CC winning their respective games. In the first match of the day, which turned out to be a one sided game, title favorites Titans CC inflicted a humiliating defeat on underdogs Suzerain CC, winning the match by a humongous 148 runs. Suzerain CC won the toss and sent in Titans to bat first. Titans capitalized on the opportunity to bat first and amassed an imposing total of 175/5 in 20 overs. Sunep top scored with 70 runs while Biblap Saikia scored 40 runs for the Titans. Wangshi finished with 4/32 in 4 overs and Temsulong took 1/18 for Suzerain. Chasing the target, Suzerain got off to the worst possible start losing their top 3 batsmen in the first over itself. They never recovered from the fiasco and succumbed to the superior bowling attack of Titans’ import from Guwahati, Bikash Singh, who raked up 7 wickets in 4 overs, conceding just 2 runs. Ato Chang picked 1/2 while Surender Singh also took 1/6 to demolish the underdogs. Suzerain CC were at one stage reduced to 14/9 and were eventually bowled all out for a measly 28 runs in just 11.1 overs. None of the Suzerain batsmen could reach the double digit mark and seven of their batsmen were sent back to the pavilion for naught. This is the lowest team total of the tournament. Bikash Singh of Titans CC was declared the Man of the Match. In the second match of the day, Züngamedem CC defeated Sovran Kings by 6 wickets to book a place in the semi finals. Sovran Kings batting first set a target of 106 losing 9 wickets in 20 overs. Maongchuba top scored with 27 runs while Yutsung contributed 22 runs for Sovran Kings. Temjentoshi of Züngamedem picked 5/10 in four overs. Moalong, Bendangwapang and Lipokyapang picked 1 wicket each. Züngamedem in reply chased down the target losing 4 wickets in 17.5 overs with Chubatoshi ( 52 runs) and Funitchiba ( 21 runs) steadily maneuvering their team home after losing some quick wickets earlier on. Imnatoshi was the pick of the Sovran bowlers with 2/24 in four overs and Lisosungkum picked 1/18. Chubatoshi of Züngamedem was named Man of the Match in the second quarter final match for his maiden half century. Perennial underachievers Züngamedem will face off with three-time defending champions Titans CC in the first semi-final match to be played the day after.
