MDFA trophy 2022 kicks off in Mokokchung

The Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA) Trophy 2022 officially kicked off on October 11 at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung with Aotula T Imchen, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Mokokchung gracing the occasion as its Chief Match Patron.

In her speech, Aotula Imchen expressed gratitude to MDFA for hosting the event successfully on behalf of the public and added that the recently held Dr T Ao Trophy, which was also organized by the association, had received a great deal of praise from the people as a whole for elevating the trophy to a new level.

The most prestigious trophy in the district, she continued, was a perfect platform to promote and motivate grassroots participation while raising the players' level to enable them to try to compete in State, National and International competitions. “We all know football is not just a beautiful game but it is also an emotion for many people. So it should be the collective desire of all that there is unity through sports,” she said. While noting, sports is the medium to develop relationships and friendship which allows us to strive and compete hard with the spirit of sportsmanship in our hearts and minds.

She also informed that the government, under the initiative of T John Longkumer, DGP of Nagaland Police has also recently inaugurated the sports battalion which will encourage many young talents and give them avenues to excel in life.

Sports Society Suyim (SSS) and Revenant FC squared off in the tournament's opening game which ended with a 1-1 draw. SSS broke the ice in the 34th minute of the first half with Suyimmayang scoring the goal for the side. However, Talijungba in the 58th minute gave the equalizer for Revenant FC, leading both the teams to go home with a point each.

Earlier, DC Mokokchung and President, District Sports Council, Shashank Pratap Singh IAS gave the keynote address and L Yanger Ltr, Convenor delivered a brief greeting while Imnayanger, Tournament Secretary presided over the Oath taking.
