MDFA Trophy 2022: Moanungsang Memorial SC and Telongjem FC to bout for championship title

Moanungsang Memorial Sporting Club and Telongjem FC sailed through to the finals of the MDFA Trophy 2022 amidst fog, rain, and heavy mud. In the first semi-final match which was played on 22 October, Moanungsang Memorial Sporting Club beat Longpa Lomuden FC 5-4 in a tie breaker match.

MMSC dominated the first half, but they could not penetrate through the Longpa defence, ending the first half in a 0-0 draw. The second half saw Longpa Lomuden giving a tough competition to MMSC giving notable shots on target but failed to net any goal.

The teams headed to the tie breakers after a gruelling 90-minute battle in search of  a final playoff spot and a score of 0-0. MMSC went on to win the match as Limakumzuk missed his attempt on the fourth kick, ending the match 5-4.

The second semi-final match was supposedly to be played on October 24 but rain and fog played spoilsport and had to be postponed to October25. The second semi-final match between Telongjem FC and Mongsenbai FC saw a thrilling encounter as the fog filled Imkongmeren Sports Complex delayed the game owing to poor visibility.

The first half of the game was marginally dominated by Mongsenbai, who had a conventional 60-40 control of the field, with both sides making significant shots on goal. The suspension of Mongsenbai's goalie Sashikumba in the 36th minute after receiving a Red card for handling the ball outside the box proved to be a big blow for the team. The first half ended in a goalless draw.

Telongjem FC scored the first goal came in the 54th minute through Pursunep, when he took a free kick from just outside the box. A consecutive goal came in the 57th minute through a penalty that came through Yhunshalo Kemp. Telongjem's Imkongnungsang scored the game-winning goal in the 85th minute after a brilliantly sculpted pass from Bapen Yimjong inside the box, giving the 10 man Mongsenbai side a 3-0 defeat.

Telongjem FC and Moanungsang Memorial Sporting Club will compete for the championship title on October 26 at 1:00 pm at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex Mokokchung, with Medo Yhoka, Advisor Technical Education and Elections, serving as the Chief Match Patron.
