Telongjem FC defended the champion title by defeating Moanungsang Memorial Sporting Club at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung on October 26.
Telongjem FC featuring some prominent players in the state managed to prove themselves better off than the veteran Moanungsang Memorial Sporting Club by defeating them 2-1 in an electrifying final playoff.
Starting the first half both the teams covered excellent possession over the field. In the 18th minute of the final game, Pursunep scored the team’s first goal to break the 0-0 tie. On the other hand, the Moanungsang team made numerous attempts to score but were unsuccessful until Jongshiwati upped his game in the final 45th minute of the first half and scored an equalizer.
Bapen Yimjong, who came in as a substitute for Yhunshalo Kemp, scored the second goal for Telongjem FC with the help of a splendid pass by Lanutoshi in the 74th minute. Moanungsang players failed to equalize Telongjem’s second goal, though attempts were made till the last extra 3 minutes. The defending champions managed to retain the championship title with a score of 2-0.
Telongjem FC was presented with citations and a monetary award of Rs 2 lakh, while Moanungsang Memorial Sporting Club was awarded citations and a monetary award of Rs. 1 lakh. Individual prizes were awarded to Alemmongba for Best Defender from Longpa Lomuden FC, Tiasunep for Best Goalkeeper from O.C.Y.U, Merangtemjen (17 years) for Most Promising Player from Youngsters Club, Yhunshalo Kemp for Highest Goal Scorer from Telongjem FC and Pursunep for Player of the Tournament from Telongjem FC.
Earlier, Medo Yhoka, Advisor Technical Education and Elections, attended as the Chief Match Patron, while Meyisanger Lemtur, President of Mokokchung District Football Association, gave the vote of thanks during the prize distribution ceremony.
