The fifth day of the ongoing MDFA Trophy 2024 featured three matches, two of which ended in draws, while Zonipang Sporting Club delivered a commanding 5-0 victory over Sports Society Soyim (SSS).

Amokmolu FC 2-2 Konyak Students Union Mokokchung (KSUM)
The first match of the day saw Amokmolu FC and KSUM battle to a 2-2 draw. Amokmolu started strongly, with Tarepnungsang opening the scoring in the 13th minute. KSUM responded swiftly, with Naoman H Konyak equalizing in the 30th minute. Just before halftime, Amokmolu’s Namang made a costly error, scoring an own goal during stoppage time, giving KSUM a 2-1 lead at the break.

In the second half, Amokmolu worked to undo their mistake, with Lipoksunep leveling the score at 2-2 in the 64th minute. Despite both teams pushing hard for the winning goal, neither could find the back of the net again, resulting in a draw.

Team Gigal 1-1 Moanungsang Memorial Sporting Club (MMSC)
The second match of the day also ended in a draw, as Team Gigal and MMSC played out a 1-1 stalemate. The first half was tightly contested, with both sides creating chances, but it wasn’t until the 42nd minute that Ato Chopi of Team Gigal broke the deadlock, giving his team a 1-0 lead going into halftime.

MMSC responded quickly after the break, with Nungsangtoshi finding the equalizer in the 50th minute. Both teams had opportunities to secure a win, but the match ended with the scores tied at 1-1.

Zonipang SC 5-0 Sports Society Soyim (SSS)
The third match of the day saw Zonipang Sporting Club demolish Sports Society Soyim with a 5-0 victory. What started as a balanced contest changed when Imnatoshi scored the opening goal in the 41st minute, giving Zonipang a 1-0 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Imnatoshi continued his dominance, scoring just two minutes after the restart and completing his hat-trick in the 63rd minute to give Zonipang a 3-0 lead. Aripong added to SSS’s misery by scoring in the 66th minute, extending the advantage to 4-0. The final blow came in the 80th minute when Nungshisashi sealed the match with a fifth goal, handing Zonipang a comprehensive win.
