MDFA Trophy 2024 Kicks off: Team Gilgal trashes DEF Mokokchung 6:1 in the first match

The much awaited MDFA Trophy 2024 kicked off on 15 October at Imkongmeren Sports Complex with T. John Longkumer, IPS (Rtd), State Election Commissioner, Nagaland as the inaugural guest.

In his speech he recalled the happy memories and emotional attachment he had playing with friends in the same ground. He encouraged the players to play with a spirit of competitiveness and with a spirit of fairness and discipline. He also encouraged them to play with an aim to bring honour to the team and also to instill goodwill and harmony amongst all team. He also encouraged the supporters to support their teams with 100 enthusiasms and not forget the importance of social harmony and to support the other teams with sincere social spirit.

During the inaugural programme, MDFA President, N Akok Longkumer, handed over a replica of the MDFA Trophy to Telongjem FC for consecutively winning the trophy three times. In the first match of the tournament DEF Mokokchung was played by Team Gilgal when Sentisang scored the first hattrick of the tournament in the 16, 21 & 25 minute and the fourth goal in the 33rd minute. 

Toshikumzuk of DEF Mokokchung scored the first goal for the team in the 44th minute giving a hope to the team. However, after the first half of the match Litenzung scored the fifth goal for Team Gilgal in the 79th minute trashing all hopes for DEF Mokokchung. The match ended with a last minute goal scored by Pange Konyak in the 90+1 minute closing the match with 6-1. 

12 teams are participating in the MDFA Trophy 2024. The trophy will culminate on October 30. MDFA also organised a curtain raiser concert after the match featuring the MW Assemble band and various local artists. 

The second match of the tournament will be played between Super Senior and Sports Society Soyim on 16 October, at 12 noon and the third match will be played between Eastern Wing and NU Lumami.
