MDFA Trophy to kick off on October 4

Mokokchung, September 30 (MExN): Altogether twenty one teams have registered for the much awaited MDFA Trophy 2016 which is scheduled to be kicked off at Imkongmeren Sports Complex at 1 O’clock on October 4 with Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, C Apok Jamir as chief guest.   Coinciding with the opening ceremony of the MDFA Trophy 2016, the newly constructed rostrum at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex will also be inaugurated on the same day. In this connection, several officials from the Department of Youth Resources & Sports led by Director (DYSR), Asangla Imti will be attending the inauguration programme.   This year, the MDFA Trophy will be played over a span of nearly three weeks i.e., 18 days, till October 21. By virtue of being the last year’s champions, Fusion FC and last year’s runner-up, Shitilong SC remains the top two favorites of the tournament.   However, consistent participants of the tournament – Sports Society Suyim (SSS) remains one of the teams to watch out for, given the fact that each year their team has always included a strong set of players.   But as always, the MDFA Trophy always holds some surprise at the end and no one can really predict who will be the ultimate winner at the end.   Some football followers are of the opinion that some of the new entrants like Grasshopper FC, Telongjem FC etc. might come up with some surprises, or that one of last year’s crowd favorites, Dilong Youth Association, might also come back stronger.
