Mokokchung, April 8 (MExN): A one-day district-level launch of Surakshit Matritva Aashwasan (SUMAN) notified facilities, along with a review of maternal health activities, was held at the Conference Hall of the Chief Medical Officer’s (CMO) office in Mokokchung on April 8.
District Programme Officer (UIP & RCH) Dr Limanaro attended the programme as the resource person and highlighted that SUMAN is an initiative aimed at ensuring zero preventable maternal and newborn deaths.
She elaborated on the three SUMAN service guarantee packages—Basic Package, Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (BEmONC) package, and Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (CEmONC) package—along with entitlements under the initiative, quality assurance measures and community engagement.
Dr Limanaro urged trainees to conduct awareness sessions on health-related issues during Village Health and Nutrition Days (VHND). She informed that there are currently four SUMAN-certified and 33 SUMAN-notified health units in Mokokchung district.
The programme also covered key topics including high-risk pregnancy, electronic Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (ePMSMA), gestational diabetes mellitus, and Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response (MPCDSR).
Participants were trained on filling up reporting formats as part of monitoring and evaluation of maternal health services.
The training was attended by Senior Medical Officers (SMOs), Medical Officers (MOs), Community Health Officers (CHOs), staff nurses, General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) personnel, Lady Health Visitors (LHVs) and Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs).
