Media fraternity, others mourn demise of Filip Sumi

Dimapur, November 12 (MExN): Condolences poured in for late journalist K Filip Sumi, a Field Reporter associated with The Morung Express since 2011, who passed away on November 12. 

Describing Filip as an exceptional human being and a passionate journalist who let his stories do the talking, The Morung Express stated that he was an anchoring force for the newspaper. He was a sincere and authentic writer who was dedicated to his calling to be a carrier of news, it said adding that it has lost a colleague and friend whose presence will always be missed.

“The Morung Express extends our heartfelt condolences to Filip’s family. We stand in solidarity with his family and community in this time of profound grief, and pray for God’s comfort in knowing that he is at peace,” it said in a condolence note. 

DPC: Members of the Dimapur Press Club (DPC) also mourned the passing of their “ever curious, ever seeking, and insatiable” President and brilliant journalist Filip. 

“He will be remembered for his unwavering willingness to take the lead despite the odds and at odd hours. He lived with an infectious enthusiasm, making puns, being generous, and filled with brimming wisdom. As long as DPC remains, he will remain amongst us,” a statement from the DPC stated. His brief but brilliant life and his contributions as a journalist, a leader, a friend, and a colleague will live on in our hearts, it added.

“Throughout his life, in different capacities, he made great contributions towards bringing positive changes in the lives of the people around him, and his ability to remain calm but hilarious in the face of adversities will be dearly missed,” the DPC statement read.

NP: The Editor-in-Chief and staff of Nagaland Post where Filip began his career in journalism in 2008, described him as a sincere and hard working man of few words.

We have had the opportunity of being acquainted with late Filip Sumi and though he has left, we will always remember him as a dedicated and pleasant personality, the publication stated in a condolence note. 

“In this hour of grief, all of us at Nagaland Post pray that God Almighty, through the Holy Spirit, grant comfort and strength to the bereaved family to tide over the darkest hour of their lives. May God also grant everlasting peace to the departed soul,’ it added.

NPA: The Nagaland Press Association while mourning his demise stated that Filip was a dedicated journalist who sincerely devoted himself to the cause of journalism and as the President of Dimapur Press Club, always worked for the welfare of his colleagues.

“His untimely demise has not only created a vacuum in his family, near and dear ones, but also the media fraternity of the state. At this difficult hour, the NPA shares the pain and grief with the family members of Filip,” NPA President H Chishi and General Secretary Dilip Sharma stated in a condolence message.

KPC: The members of Kohima Press Club (KPC) remembered Filip as an ardent journalist and a leader who was hard working and dedicated in what he did, in a message from President Alice Yhoshü and General Secretary Atono Tsükrü Kense.

“In his demise, the Kohima Press Club has lost not just a fellow journalist and a colleague, but also a friend. We deeply mourn his passing and offer our most sincere condolences to his bereaved family members,” it added. 

MPC: In a separate condolence message, the Mokokchung Press Club described late Filip as a responsible journalist and a great human being with a noble character. Stating that his passing has left a vacuum that would be difficult to fill, MPC President Limalenden Longkumer conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace. 

DIPR: The state Department of Information & Public Relations in a condolence note stated that Filip was known as an active journalist who never shied away from his duties and responsibilities. The immense contributions and services he rendered for the growth and promotion of journalism in Nagaland is commendable. He always stood in the forefront when it comes to welfare and wellbeing of media fraternity in the state, it said.

Stating that his association with the media houses and the Department would be fondly cherished, the DIPR prayed for solace and strength for his wife, daughter and loved ones. 

Dimapur CP: Meanwhile, Dimapur Commissioner of Police Rothihu Tetseo mourned the loss of the renowned senior journalist stating that his numerous contributions to the Naga civil society are immeasurable. “Surely his work has left an indelible mark in the field of journalism and the vacuum will always be felt,” the CP stated while conveying heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members.
