Attendees of the 3-day ‘Medical Officers Training on Clinical Management of Vector Borne Diseases’ held from March 21-23 at DHFW Conference Hall, Kohima.

KOHIMA, MARCH 25(MExN): National Centre for Vector Borne Diseases Control (NCVBDC), Directorate of Health & Family Welfare Kohima, organised a 3-day ‘Medical Officers Training on Clinical Management of Vector Borne Diseases’ from March 21-23 at DHFW Conference Hall, Kohima.
Delivering the key note address, Dr E Motsuthung Patton, Mission Director, National Health Mission (NHM) reminded the Medical Officers (MOs) on the issues and experiences of high surge of Dengue cases reported last year.
He urged them to be more vigilant and proactive in the future and prepared to curb any outbreak of diseases.
Dr Patton also requested them to uphold work sincerity at respective place of posting.
Dr Tinurenla Anichari, Deputy Director NCVBDC, presented the roles and responsibilities of MOss by informing the participants to refer all suspected Malaria cases to the laboratory for blood smear collection and examination before starting treatment & to ensure that all positive cases get treatment as per National Drug Policy within 24 hours of reporting confirmed cases.
She also reminded them to ensure sufficient stocks of anti-malarial are available in PHCs/CHCs and periphery.
Simultaneously, Imsubenla, State Consultant Public Health & Training highlighted on Nagaland NCVBDC programme, which covers 6 vector borne diseases, out of which four diseases are prevalent in Nagaland -Malaria, Dengue, Japanese Encephalitis & Chikungunya.
Earlier, Malaria was endemic in all the districts but since 2018 endemicity has been reduced, and no no malaria death case has been reported during the last past seven years, she added.
Imsubenla also revealed that Japanese Encephalitis cases has been reported from Dimapur, Wokha, Mokokchung , Mon & Peren District & Dengue cases has become endemic in all district.
Dr Akuo Sorhie Director (Health) shared way forward on importance of early diagnosis & complete treatment, to screen all fever case for Malaria at OPD, not to miss out any asymptomatic case & ensure timely submission of monthly reports.
MOs were also urged to supervise ANM & CHOs to screen all fever case at OPD for MP test.
Dr R Chubala Aier, Additional Director, emphasised on usage of LLIN (Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets), sentinel sites has been set up at State to test Dengue namely Dimapur Sentinel Site Hospital, NHAK Kohima & in Tuensang BSL –II Lab. For Japanese Encephalitis confirmation is to be done only by ELISA test which is available at Dimapur District Hospital.
Dr L A Singh, Senior Regional Director, Imphal dwelt on National framework for Malaria Elimination & NSP, Malaria Epidemiology & Life cycle of Malaria Parasite, Diagnosis & Management, Quality Assurance in Malaria diagnosis, Reporting formats of Malaria, challenges on the way towards Malaria Elimination , Dengue, Japanese Encephalitis, Epidemiological Investigations & criteria to obtain Malaria elimination Certificate.
Kikohul, Assistant Director, UVBDS presented on Integrated Vector Management in Nagaland context, source reduction, fogging & displaying of life specimens of Larvivorous fish & larvae of Culex mosquitoes. One functional hatchery is located at UVBDS Dimapur under Dimapur CMO office where Larvivovous fish is distributed free of cost, he stated.
