Medicine dealers denounce CMO fee

Dimapur, August 1 (MExN): The Nagaland Medicine Dealers’ Association has directed all its members not to pay any fee to the Chief Medical Officer authority, and said it is illegal under the PFA act. The NMDA’s assertion comes in the wake of reported “medical examination fee” being exacted by the medical authorities, but which was later banned by the Dimapur administration. “A proper notification from the state govt also should be published for the knowledge of the vendors. If any fee has to be collected it must be through the Treasury challan or cash against receipt,” the NMDA said. It also cited provisions under the PFA 1954 (central Act 37 of 1954) and rule 6 of Nagaland PFA 1985.

“As such it is to inform to all the members not to pay such fine or charges if the medical officer impose on them for violation of this act as pleaded by the CMO. It is also requested that the DMC, Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and other associations should also condemn and take necessary steps to stop this unlawful extortion by the authorities,” it added. The NMDA also appreciated “the concern shown by the DC”.
