Medicos clarify on authorities’ raid

Dimapur, March 23 (MExN): ‘Medicine dealers’ have assured that they “do legal business as per prevailing laws”, in the backdrop of authorities checking a number of medicine depots in Dimapur. The Nagaland Medicine Dealers’ Association (NMDA) issued a note today. Earlier the Excise department, Narcotics, police and the administration sorted through M/s Medico and M/s Bharat Medical House in Dimapur.  

“The main smuggling and trafficking of banned drugs ate being carried out by some unscrupulous people which can be checked and controlled by the concerned authorities by properly manning the entry gate/check gate,” the NMDA asserted in its press release.  

“NMDA always insists and impress upon the members to do the legal business as per the prevailing laws. NMDA assures all the assistance to the concerned authorities in apprehending the culprits and expects the authorities will conduct their duties honestly in the interest of public health,” the organization stated.  

If the authorities insist that “restricted products” should not be kept on counters, the NMDA said it would insist it members to adhere to that directive. “But the government should maintain the stocks of life-saving restricted medicines at providing sufficient stocks to meet the public demand.” The NMDA appealed to the authorities to take them into confidence whenever undertaking scrutiny and checking medical establishments.
