MEDZIPHEMA, NOVEMBER 5 (MExN): Zhovi Mera and Rokosier Savino were crowned champions of the First Open Doubles Badminton Championship 2017, Medziphema, which concluded November 4. The duo romped to victory beating Meren Imsong and Katoshe Swu in a closely contested final match cheered on by an enthusiastic crowd of spectators. The champion duo won Rs. 10,000 and the runners-up Rs. 5000 sponsored by Dr. Kezhavito Vüprü and Arshad Vime Savino Hazarika, respectively. As per a press release, the tournament was organised by like-minded badminton aficionados of Medziphema and showcased over a dozen teams. Encouraged by the response from players as well as spectators, the release quoted the tournament’s organising committee convenor as stating, “more of such tournaments aimed to foster unity among the denizens will be conducted in future.”
