Medziphema: Tense but under control

Dimapur, March 4 (MExN): The personnel of the 11 IRB ‘Delta Company’ is reportedly conducting intensive patrolling in Medziphema town trying to restore calm in the town after a spate of factional fights in the town. In a telephonic conversation, an official of the Medziphema police station said that armed cadres from both the NSCN factions are still camped in the town and expressed his apprehension that anything might happen at any time.

Another officer from the same station said that the NSCN (IM) Town Command is always there and that the NSCN (K) cadres came and attacked their rivals.  A public leader of the Town said that presently the IRB and Assam Rifles personnel are conducting intensive patrolling in the town, however, he said, the Assam Rifles do not come out at night since they are tied down with the cease fire ground rules.

A citizen of the town in a telephonic conversation said people do not go out after four in the evening. He lamented that the present situation in the town is causing a lot of tension to the students of various institutions in Medziphema.

It may be mentioned that during the last few weeks, Medziphema town, which is situated a few kilometers away from Dimapur has witnessed two incidences of factional fighting leading to a lot of tension in the town for which a peace rally was also organized by the public on March 4.
