Dimapur, June 18 (MExN): The granddaughter of one of the first lady converts in Khar Village, Yunenchila Jamir at 71 years of age has lived a life of trials, tears and battles but never once despaired. Her story is a living testimony that no matter what one goes through in life — the ups and downs — there is always a reason to smile as the love of God is always reigning mightier than the man.
Yunenchila lost all her family members at a very young age and also had to take care of her mentally challenged brother for the last 40 years. She reveals that she hasn’t slept in her own home, not even once in the last 30 years. “It’s not because I do not have a home; wherever there is work I sleep there,” she says.
She has never married and for the last 40 years, Jamir has dedicated her life to her family and her brother. In spite of all the tragedy and trials, she has continued to steadfastly walk along with God. The story of this rare woman found place in a book when I. Asang Walling felt compelled by an inner voice to search for somebody from his village — someone who had gone through all trials and tragedy but yet still walked the path of God. “After reading her story, whatever she had to undergo, if it was us, can we smile?” he asks. Walling also believes that Yunenchila’s strength, love of God and willingness to help others cannot be found in just anybody and for this, she is a rare woman.
He also hoped that through her life story we should be reminded that we are not the only ones going through sufferings and that there are people going through more difficult times than us.
Incidentally Yunenchila is a former Sunday school teacher of the biographer. Mr Walling also revealed that it was not an easy task for him to write the book as he had to make countless trips to Khar village, and since there were no records or diary as such he had to patiently interview her and observe her expressions. He also felt that the purpose of the book will be achieved if through Yunenchila’s story, people suffering or going through tragedies can learn that no matter what circumstances with all humility and perseverance we have to bear what we can and with humility in front of God.
Yunenchila is known to others as someone always ready to help others, without distinguishing differences of village, tribe of other affiliation. She believes that everyone is a child of God and deserves her time and attention. The book “Timtem Tuoshi Aremzukla” will be released at 9:00 am at Lengrijan Community Hall (Lower), Dimapur by Pastor DABA, Rev. N. Tzudir.
