Meeting between Jorhat and Mkg held

Dimapur, May 6 (MExN): In an attempt to resolve the ongoing border tensions between Jorhat and Mokokchung, a DC level meeting was held at Jorhat circuit house today. At the meeting, Law and Order issues between the districts at different times were deliberated upon among others things. This was informed in a press release issued by Er. Temsu Wathi Ao, District Informatics Officer (NIC).

SP Jorhat Sanjukta Parasor IPS expressed that most of the situations arise during onset of the monsoon and relates to fresh cultivation at the border areas by either sides of people. She therefore urged the administration and police from both sides to keep vigil on its people in order to do away with confrontation during the period from February to May/June.

The meeting discussed about the kidnap and assault on eight persons, of which three from Tea Tribes of Jorhat district on April 17 reportedly by Naga armed miscreants.Therefore, it resolved that the Nagaland government will book the culprit/s and action will be intimated to Assam government; Medical expenses bill at actual shall be sent to DC Mokokchung by DC Jorhat and it shall be arranged for payment to the victim purely on humanitarian ground; More local peace committees shall be constituted in the border areas of Assam and Nagaland.

Meanwhile, it has been informed that All Assam Tea Tribes’ Student Association (AATTSA) members were dissatisfied with today’s meeting outcome. It has been informed that they might take up agitation from tomorrow. Travelers have been advised not to use Mariani-Nakachari-Amguri route till such time the issue gets settled.
