Former Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Mukul Sangma has hit out at the present NPP led government in the state arguing that though the state did have a government, there was a lack of governance by the present coalition.
“We have been very candid and clear about the fact that there is a government but no governance. If you just pass through the roads, you can see illegalities. The situation is such that the HC has lately intervened into these alleged illegalities that have been going on with impunity, with the patronage of the government. This is something which is going to damage and become disastrous for the state,” said Mukul on the sideline of the meeting held yesterday at Watregre in West Garo Hills.
The former CM has been busy with various programs after shifting his allegiance from the Congress to the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC). The meetings have aimed to inform supporters of the reasons for their leaving the Congress.
On the merger and their tours of the region, Mukul said that these programs would last until another 2 months at least so that they can inform all of their decisions and seek out ways to bring the AITC to govern the state after the upcoming 2023 elections.
“Those who are gathered are all former Congress leaders who have come forward to work with us. These are erstwhile leaders of the Congress, as all possible positions and merged with us in the AITC. Simultaneously at the grassroot level, party workers are working on a similar exercise. We are getting support from not only the former INC workers but from other parties as well. We expect these mergers to be completed within the next 45-60 days,” he added.
Mukul during the press brief said he was confident that the elections in 2023 would give them the mandate and the flag of the AITC would fly in every corner of the state.
Reacting to the statement made by the Deputy Speaker, Timothy D Shira, Mukul said the matter was being taken up by the party leadership and steps would be taken accordingly.
Earlier, the deputy Speaker had alleged that the TMC would finance Rs 200 crore to the state AITC and Rs 5 crore each to individual MLAs who had joined the AITC.
