Meghalaya mulls recruiting more policewomen

Shillong, August 25 (NNN): To address concerns on the rise crimes against women and children, Meghalaya Home Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui said that the government intends to recruit more women police personnel. Pointing out that civil society and villagers are standing up against rape and showing no tolerance towards such acts, Rymbui said that having more women police personnel in the police force would be of great help in tackling the problem. He added that it is mandated 10% reservation for women in the police force and the state also needs to recruit more women police officers. “With the cooperation of all, the state will be able to prevent to a certain extent such acts from happening and even if committed they are prosecuted,” he added.
