Shillong | April 14
Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Transport Sniawbhalang Dhar today said there will be no railway project in the Khasi-Jaintia region of the state until and unless everybody is taken on board.
Speaking to media persons, Dhar said, “The Chief Minister is yet to call for an all-party meeting that will also include stakeholders. We will discuss nicely and we will listen to them.”
He also assured, “Don't worry, there will be no rail project until and unless everybody is on board. We always work for the people.”
On April 3, the state government constituted an All-Party Committee on issues related to railway connectivity in Meghalaya.
As per the terms of reference, the committee has been asked to examine and find solutions, ways and means to bring about the introduction and construction of railways in Meghalaya.
The committee will also assess the cost benefit analysis of introduction of railways in the state. It will seek views of all stakeholders and accordingly submit the recommendation to the state government.
