Shillong, April 13 (MExN): Meghalaya reported the first case of COVID-19 with the doctor testing positive on April 13.

“A doctor from Bethany Hospital, Shillong tested positive. District Magistrate Shillong has imposed curfew for 48-hrs in the Shillong Agglomeration area starting from 6 am of 14th April with exemption of essential services,” tweeted Press Information Bureau, Shillong late Monday evening.

The tweet was accompanied with a press release from the Office of the Chief Secretary, Meghalaya informing about the case and subsequent imposition of 48-hour curfew.

“All residents are requested to kindly refrain from coming out of the houses to enable Health Department officials to do contact tracing and take appropriate remedial measures, the press release said.

It further requested all residents of the state who may have visited the hospital at Nongrim Hills on or after March 22 to “immediately register themselves by calling 108 or visiting Meghalaya Government website.

The release further said that the government is “fully prepared” to handle the situation and there is no need for the public to have anxiety” over the situation.

In view of the development, the State Cabinet will be meeting again on April 14 to review the decisions that were taken in a meeting held on April 13, it added.
