Meghalaya to set up second test lab in Tura

Commissioner and Secretary Health, Sampath Kumar on Friday said that apart from North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), the government has suggested for setting up another testing centre in Tura.

 

“Another testing centre in Tura is on the pipeline, since bringing the samples to NEIGRIHMS will be time consuming,” Kumar told reporters on Friday.

 

On how will the state government tide over the shortage of personal protective equipment (PPEs) he informed that the USHA Silai Centres in the state are making reusable masks.

 

Moreover, Kumar also informed that out of the 7000 plus people who returned back to the state before the lockdown, 168 were foreign returnees.

 

He also said that 66 persons with the symptoms of COVID-19 have been tested in the state and fortunately, all turned up negative.
