Meluri: 9th Pochury Black Day Memorial Cup commences

Meluri, October 7 (MExN): The 9th edition of the Pochury Black Day Memorial Cup 2022 organized by Pochury Students Union (PSU) kicked off at Local Ground Meluri on October 7. The opening ceremony was graced by Pochury Hoho, President, Chonpa Jurry. Altogether, 11 teams are competing for the trophy.

A press release from the PSU stated that the union has been organising the cup in commemoration of Pochury Black Day and “with the vision to preserve, protect and promote our unique identity and to spread the importance of our history (through sports) in which our forefathers had sacrificed their lives for the cause of Naga Nation.” It stated that PSU organises the cup to “transform football in our locality by creating a platform and opportunity to our youths to develop their talent and skills in sports.”

The inaugural programme was chaired by Lotsiavi C Kajiri, Sieketho Nyusou, Associate Pastor BCMT said the and welcome address by Müphatho Nyuthe, President PSU. Küvelüto Venuh presented special number while Povozo, Finance Secretary Chakhesang Students’ Union extended solidarity note. The oath taking was administered by Ngoushutho Ngouri, Games & Sports Secretary, PSU.

In the first match played Immortals FC defeated United Brothers Club with a score line of 3 to 1. In the second match, Shining Star FC defeated Shilloi Sporting Club with score of 2 to 1.

October 8 Match Fixture:
•    Wieküzü FC vs. Jeichüghu FC Phor (8:00 am)
•    St. Xavier FC vs. United Brothers Club (9:40 am)
•    Shilloi Sporting Club vs. Lephori (1:00 pm)
•    Khumiasü FC vs. Wieküzü FC (2:40 pm)
