Merapani: Sand suppliers, stockists seek 7 days to clear imbalances

Wokha, April 11 (MExN): The Consumer Rights Organisation (CRO) Wokha along with District Administration Wokha and Lotha Hoho visited Merapani on April 9 and held consultative meeting with the sand suppliers and stockists regarding supply, sale and adulteration of sand in Wokha district.

According to a press release from the Media Cell, CRO Wokha, at the meeting, the suppliers and stockists informed that 400 cubic feet of sand are loaded into each truck that are being transported to Wokha sand dealers. However, after proper technical measurements made by the CRO Wokha officials, it was disclosed that the trucks entering Wokha town do not meet the said quantity claimed by the stockists and suppliers from Merapani, it said.

M Abel Enny, President CRO Wokha, revealed that trucks entering Wokha Town carry maximum 360 cubic feet as per the technical measurements but after entering Wokha town, consumers are being charged for 400 cubic feet.

Another major concern, the release stated, was the adulteration of sand being supplied to Wokha town. CRO Wokha strongly reminded the suppliers and stockists that adulteration of sand would not be compromised under any circumstances, adding that the imbalance in supply, sale and adulteration of sand only benefits the stockists and the suppliers while greatly affecting the common public.

To work out the imbalances regarding supply, sale and adulteration of sand the suppliers and stockists at Merapani had sought 7 days time frame with effect from April 9, the release stated.

Meanwhile, the CRO Wokha informed that any complaints or imbalances in the market can be forwarded to the office of CRO Wokha.
