MLA Achumbemo Kikon addresses the gathering during the inauguration of the Meluri Division Office on January 21.
Meluri, January 21 (MExN): MLA and Secretary General of the Naga People’s Front (NPF), Achumbemo Kikon, on January 21 underscored the importance of Naga unity and strong regional politics, asserting that the merger of two regional political parties reflected the will and desire of the Naga people.
Addressing party workers during the inauguration of the Meluri Division office, Kikon expressed gratitude to party leaders, workers and the people of Meluri, stating that the collective aspiration of the Naga people was to stand united under a single regional platform.
“The merger of regional parties under the NPF banner was in response to the long-cherished desire of the Naga people to overcome fragmentation and work together as one,” Kikon said.
Recalling the merger effected on October 21, 2025, he clarified that the unification process was completed within three months and had been duly recognised by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
He informed that official communication from the ECI, naming Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio as President of the NPF, had already been received.
“Everything has been done as per the party constitution—resolutions, conventions, elections and submissions to the Election Commission. There should be no confusion in the minds of the people,” he asserted.
Urging party workers not to be misled by rumours or misinformation allegedly being circulated by political opponents, Kikon added that the ECI had also invited the NPF to participate in the National Voters’ Day celebrations to be held in New Delhi on January 25.
Highlighting the significance of the newly inaugurated Meluri Division, Kikon said the elevation from a constituency-level organisation to a divisional unit would enable local leaders to participate directly in central and state-level party decision-making.
“This is a major step forward for Meluri. It will ensure greater political representation and organisational strength,” he maintained.
Emphasising discipline and unity within the party, Kikon warned against internal divisions, stating that the NPF would not tolerate factionalism or discrimination.
“We may have come from different political paths, but today we are under one roof and must work with team spirit,” he said.
The NPF Secretary General also reiterated the party’s firm commitment to a peaceful and honourable resolution of the Naga political issue, describing it as the party’s top priority. He noted that Meluri had historically maintained a strong regional political identity, producing predominantly regional leaders and consistently rejecting national parties.
Referring to the sacrifices made by the people of the region during the Naga political movement, Kikon said the party would continue to safeguard Naga rights and interests.
He further urged the people to remain steadfast ahead of the upcoming elections, stressing that resolving the Naga issue would require both political participation and unity.
Kikon said the inauguration of the Meluri Division office marked a significant organisational milestone for the NPF in the district, reinforcing the party’s presence and reaffirming its call for unity among the Naga people amid ongoing political challenges.
