Meyitemsu Naga is the “first Naga dancer” to represent Nagaland in one of India’s biggest reality dance shows: India’s Best Dancer. Meyitemsu is from Chuchuyimlang village and resides at Alempang ward, Mokokchung, Nagaland.

“Dancing has always been a part of my life. Watching dance participants dancing their heart out in reality shows impacted me to become what I am today. I would literally drool over their fancy moves,” says the 26-year-old dancer who also believes that dancing is an art which brings out an individual’s emotions and character.

“I learnt that the audition for the second season of India’s Best Dancer will be held online, so I took the opportunity and posted my videos and got selected. I was invited for the live audition at Kolkata,” said Meyitemsu when asked about his entry to the reality dance show. “We have to go through so many rounds of auditions to reach the live TV show. I feel lucky that I was selected and I could reach till the live shows,” he added.

Meyitemsu started dancing when he was 11 years of age and he has participated in a lot of dance competitions all around Nagaland. He said that Lyrical, Animation, and Robotic are a few genres of dance which helps him to express and bring out the real fire within him.

“I have been passionate about dancing from an early age, but due to the lack of support from the society I was unable to pursue my dream. My biggest accomplishment and driving force was when I participated in a dance competition organised by DNF Studio & FAB Affairs Mokokchung, where Pradeep Gurung came to judge the competition. Since then, I never stopped dancing and I believe I have reached this milestone of India’s Best Dancer Season 2 because of my determination.

“Growing up in a society where dancers were not appreciated for their hard work and skills, I was always motivated to work harder and bring hope for dancers not only in my neighbourhood but to the whole of Nagaland. I still remember the day when I dropped out from class 12 and took dancing as my career, I promised my parents that I will one day be performing on National television,” narrates Meyitemsu

“Meeting dancers from all around the country, shooting for national TV, dancing in front of dance celebrities and sharing my dancing skills, it all seems like a dream” expressed Meyitemsu. “I would even get goosebumps while shooting for my own videos. The experience is something which I can’t express. It is beyond words,” he added.

Meyitemsu wishes to uplift and train the dancers from Nagaland. He wishes to show the dancers the possibilities and guide them by sharing his personal experiences.

“Our people keep talking of bringing change to our life and society but in order to achieve that we need to be the change. We have a lot of talented individuals in our state, but we lack behind due to the lack of support. We need to move forward and support each other. If we keep depending on the government and on others, we will never be able to achieve anything in life,” he concluded his interview with The Morung Express.
