MGOS Church, Dimapur celebrates feast of Saint Gregorios

Dimapur, November 12 (MExN): Mar Gregorios Orthodox Syrian (MGOS) Church, Dimapur began the celebration of feast of Saint Gregorios of Parumala on November 12 with hoisting of the flag by Vicar, Rev. Fr. PS Varghese.  

A press release from the church informed that every day evening prayer will be conducted at 5:30 pm during the celebration. On November 18 evening, there will be prayer at 4:00 pm followed by procession from Church to PWD junction and special prayers at the Midland Cross tower. On November 19, Sunday morning prayer will be held at 7:30 am followed by Holy Mass and procession from MGM Hr Sec School to Midland Cross Tower.  

Dr. Yohanon Mar Crysostomos, Bishop of Niranam Diocese, Kerala will be the Chief Celebrant at this year’s feast. The Bishop will visit Kohima and there will be a Holy Mass on November 18 7:30 am at Kohima Kerala Christian Congregation, the release said.  

The release informed that MGOS Church, Dimapur was established in 1980 by the Orthodox Syrian Christians in the name of Saint Gregorios of Parumala, the first Indian Bishop declared as saint in 1947.  

In his memory, there are hundreds of churches across the world and educational institutions around the country. MGOS Church, Dimapur, MGM Hr Sec School, and MGM College are named after the Bishop.  

Every year, the feast is celebrated in his name during the second week of November, it added.
