Phek, February 10 (MExN): Minister for Higher Education, Imna Along Longkumer visited Phek Government College (PGC) on February 8.
A programme was organized at the college hall chaired by Dr Vizovol Mekro, Principal, Phek Government College. Welcoming the Minister and his entourage, the Principal apprised him of immense contributions from the administration, eleven wards and other organizations of Phek town in the preparation of the college’s anticipated NAAC peer team visit, a press release from Temjenmeren, member, Media Cell, PGC stated.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister expressed appreciation to the people of the district for their unceasing cooperation and support rendered to the college which he termed as ‘rare’ in Nagaland.
Emphasizing the importance of education in the development process of the state, he stressed the need to develop a strong education system. He however, lamented the government’s inability to invest where it is needed, owing to scarcity of funds. He further reminded that PGC is not for Chakhesang alone, encouraging the students to serve the people of Nagaland once they pass out from the college and work anywhere in the state with sincerity and dedication.
Also, speaking during the programme, Additional Director, Directorate of Higher Education, Watijungshi encouraged the college to work harder towards excellence even after the assessment. Vote of thanks was delivered by Besengulie Venuh, Vice Principal, PGC. The Minister was accompanied by NEPED Chairman, Kevechutso Doulo, Higher Education Director, Watijungshi, political secretaries, public leaders and host of other dignitaries.
