New Delhi, May 26 (MExN): Minister for Higher Education & Technical Education, Nagaland Temjen Imna Along, accompanied by State Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) officials attended the RUSA phase 2 Project Approval Board meeting held on May 25 at the India International Centre (IIC), New Delhi.
A press release stated that Temjen Imna Along highlighted that the North-eastern States depends entirely on central funding to develop its educational institutions since they have no internal revenue. He stated that due to lack of proper educational facilities many of the students from the region are migrating to other States for higher education in spite of financial difficulties. However, with proper support from the Ministry the educational institutions in the region have the potential to grow and compete with other States, and can even perform better, he stated.
Secretary MHRD & RUSA National Mission Director R. Subramanyam while emphasizing on the need of performance-based funding under RUSA phase 2, also acknowledged that the educational institutions in the region needs special support and assured the members that a special provision will be made exclusively for the north-eastern States, the release added. Jt. Secy MHRD & RUSA Mission Director Ishita Roy acknowledged the presence and efforts made by each States/UTs, UGC Director and Financial Advisor (MHRD) with special appreciation to Temjen Imna Along, the only Minister for Higher Education & Technical Education who has attended the meeting.
