Over the recent past, there have been a lot of hue and cry from different sections of people most to the department of Education for the all the menace of the appointment and recruitment imbroglio and also to the department of Power for very poor power supply. Out here, I felt the need to share my views so that if there is something worthwhile we may ponder implementing it.
If the government of Nagaland is sincere in building a prosperous, healthy and exemplary state, there also has to be changes in the educational system as well.
We all know that teaching job is very different from all other jobs and not just anybody can be a good teacher and we at this juncture need very qualified, dedicated and committed teachers as it is in their hands either to build or to destroy. Just because a person has degrees does not mean that he/she is qualified to be a teacher, it needs passion and dedication.
During interview for teachers, the aspirants may be asked to demonstrate their teaching skills and abilities instead of wasting time asking unnecessary questions.
Any new appointment given to qualified candidates be made under strict agreement so that they do not seek for other job whatsoever, as when a teacher goes away in the middle of an academic year it becomes very difficult not only for the students but also for the whole department since they’ve got to find replacement for the same. This way, it also saves a lot of headache for both the educated who are looking for employment and the government.
Many are usually of the notion that elementary level students can be given teachers who may not be as qualified as the teachers for the higher sections, but I’m here to say that elementary or for that matter even the very pre-primary level is the foundation of a person’s academic life and therefore the best and the most qualified teachers must be given to build these young and intellect minds, by this the higher the students study the easier it will be both for the teachers and the students. As of now, many govt. schools still have students even in high school section who do not understand English which is the medium of education and to make the matter worse there are also many teachers who are equally ignorant (not being able to explain even a sentence in English). Who is responsible for this?
A lot of govt. employees (teachers) also do not even stay in their posted places; they take the appointment, find substitute for themselves, divide the salary and stay in some other comfortable places doing something else. These kinds of teachers who are not sincere in their jobs should be terminated from their services without any strings attached, so that many who are willing to render their services may be given a chance.
Many people are also in the teaching job just for the sake of being employed in the government service taking advantages; and for this, with proper screening they must be made to render their valuable services (if found competent) in some other departments under any available procedure so that they do not give wrong guidance to the younger intellectual upcoming generation. As a matter of fact, many of those who have been employed to teach 25 to 30 years ago are not competent anymore as the standard of education has drastically improved. And now, with the coming in of CCE the system has become even more complicated for which many elderly teachers find very hard to truly render sincere services.
Nagaland has lost generations because of many visionless, corrupted, selfish and greedy govt. officers to whom power was given actually to execute efficient service, and therefore, we can’t afford to lose anymore, enough is enough.
There has got to be a proper investigation for government employees (officers or ministerial staffs of any department) or even ministers or anyone (retired or still in the job) who have distorted the proper system of governance and be awarded befitting punishment as per the law.
If we don’t bring changes now, than when? If we don’t bring justice now, than when? If we don’t speak the truth now, than when? If we don’t do what is right now, than when? If we don’t live like responsible citizens now, than when? If we don’t act upon now, than when? Anything for better that is not now is LATE. Let Justice prevail
Nagas generations of NOW don’t fear anymore but shall speak and stand for the TRUTH.
