Miscreants loot Rs 1.15 crore in Manipur’s Churachandpur

Unidentified miscreants shot a bank employee and looted Rs 1.15 crore in Manipur’s Churachandpur district on Friday.

The bank employee, identified as Arambam Ranjan, later succumbed to injuries on the way to a hospital in Imphal.

Official reports said that some miscreants armed with small guns shot the bank employee when he came out of the State of Bank of India (SBI), Churachandpur town branch, located in the heart of the crowded Churachandpur town, around 10:30 am.

He reportedly came out of the bank with cashamounting to Rs 1.15 crore meant for replenishing SBI ATM booths in the town. The bank assigned him as cash custodian of the bank.

Reports said that the miscreants shot the bank employee when he was about to enter his vehicle with the cash. His vehicle was parked only around 250 meters away from the bank branch.

After shooting him, the miscreants who were on a motorcycle fled from the scene with the money, reports stated.

Ranjan who had received two bullet injuries in his abdomen, was taken to the district hospital in critical condition. He was then referred to a hospital in Imphal but succumbed to injuries before reaching Imphal.

Soon after the incident, police from the district headquarters rushed to the spot and after taking on-spot stock of the situation, registered a case against the unknown miscreants.

Police have also reportedly picked up three staff members of the bank who worked in the same section with the deceased staff for questioning.
