The auditions for Miss Dimapur 2023, organised by the Ethnic Group of Nagaland (EGoN) was held today at Hotel Acacia with around 12 contestants as young as 18-20 year-olds.

EGoN is headed by the new president, Ledia Awomi and the production team for this year’s pageant includes Nise Meruno who will be the show director; Toshizen Longkumer, fashion choreographer; Christy Tsanglao, make-up artist; Kehodi Yoho, band member of Colored Keys and Vikali Zhimomi as the chief advisor to Miss Dimapur 2023.

Addressing the media fraternity during the event, President of EGoN, Ledia Awomi said that this year's “Beauty with a Purpose” holds significant importance, as she emphasised that beauty is not only external, but that it should extend to one's community and the state. She briefed that the   contestants will be encouraged to actively involve in community projects and initiatives that address real issues and make a positive impact for the overall development of the society.

She also announced that Jewellery Hub, Guwahati, has come on board as the official sponsor of this year's pageant. Expressing optimism, Awomi said that this is only the beginning as they anticipate more sponsorship from various sources that will further elevate the event.

She also encouraged the young and vibrant contestants to step out of their comfort zones and consider participating in these kinds of pageants, which is not just a beauty pageant but also an avenue for personal growth and opportunity to contribute positively to society.

Further demystifying that beauty pageants are degrading, echoing Lara Dutta's speech during the Miss Universe pageant, Nise Meruno said that it is a wonderful opportunity for young girls to be able to voice out their opinions, on issues plaguing the society. It gives them the courage to be able to step into different fields. “So, I really feel beauty pageants need to be encouraged,” he added.

The finale will be held at Tetso College on October 21, at 6:00 pm. While physical tickets will be available, e-tickets are encouraged for the event.

The organiser and the production team welcomed all to come together towards making the pageant a success.
