Dimapur, October 2 (MExN): A team of government officials, corporate executives, researchers, entrepreneurs and growers from the states of Nagaland, West Bengal, Orissa, Maharastra and Punjab comprising of 18 members visited Shanghai, Beijing, Shenyang and Shougaung in China from September 11 to 19. The Mission to China organised by India-China Alliance Centre New Delhi was officially led by R. Khing, Parliamentary Secretary for Horticulture, Government of Nagaland.
The purpose of the Mission was to have a first hand knowledge on production methods of horticultural and agricultural crops both under greenhouse and open field conditions, mass production methods of planting materials especially vegetable crops, marketing systems, supply and distribution chains for inputs and produces, packaging and processing of produces particularly horticultural crops.
The team was invited by Professor Dan Gouying of Rural Development Institute in the China Academy of Social Sciences in Beijing, a highest policy making Institute in China. In a meeting with the Professor and his associates, R. Khing spoke at length mentioning the purpose of the team’s visit to China.
During the process of interaction, the team was informed that China had attained a high degree of farm mechanization and marketing systems including supply chains and distribution of inputs and produces further stating that the professionalism has been properly established which he attributed to improvement and advancement in communication technological systems.
The interactive session touched upon issues and topics ranging from agriculture credit system to role of research institutions, agricultural universities and delivery of expert’s services to farmers for development of land based income generating activities in the country.
The team member Dr. R. Elithung Lotha in a press release informed that the Mission team from Nagaland besides the Team Leader included Dr. N. Ben Aier, the Mission Director (HTM-NE), Horticulture Dept., DHOs, entrepreneurs and some progressive growers.
