MITE observes ‘International Literacy Day’

Kohima, September 8 (MExN): The Modern Institute of Teacher Education (MITE), Kohima joined with the world in observing the ‘International Literacy Day’ at the College Auditorium on September 8. The college also participated in the nation-wide essay competition as instructed by the Election Commission of India on the topic ‘Solution to Electoral Malpractices begins with me’ for college students.  

A press release stated that the formal observance of the day started with welcome address from Apang, Student-Teacher, B.Ed Sem-I, followed by a note on the importance of observing the day by Mutsivelu Vadeo, Student-Teacher, B.Ed Sem-I. Devanand Sinha, Principal of the college exhorted the students on the significance of International Literacy Day. He emphasized on girls’ literacy that educating a girl child means educating the whole family. He further stressed on the needs of computer literacy as the whole world campaign for digital learning.   The exhortation was followed by a very exciting debate competition on the burning topic ‘33 percent reservation for women in Nagaland’ among the students-teachers representing the different clubs of the college. At the end of the debate, the speaker also stressed on the importance and needs of women empowerment in the state and encourages women to participate in every field of life. The International Literacy Day observation concluded with words of gratitude from Manehrii, Asst. Professor of MITE.
