Dimapur, May 28 (MExN): ATMA Dimapur Niuland Town conducted demonstrations at Niuland town on May 26 on the topic ‘Deworming Method in Pigs’ with Dr. Vekuto, VAS, Department of Veterinary & AH as the resource person.
Mixed Farm School was set up at Niuland Town with Hutoni being it Farm Teacher. Her farm spread over 10 hectares comprises of various vegetable crops, fruit trees, piggery, poultry, fishery and beekeeping units.
Earlier while addressing the participants, Dr. Vekuto said that feeding contributes 70-75% of total production cost of the pig farm and therefore should be balanced and economical and also highlighted on the various energy and protein requirements of swine at different stages of growth. Certain queries were highlighted by the farmers like whether use of deworming tablets during pregnancy is applicable or not, dosage of deworming tablets, cycle of vaccination of pigs, procedure to give deworming tablets before or after food, whether per tablets can be given randomly or according to size/weight of pig.
Further, Dr. Lawrence Kithan, Scientist, AICRP, SASRD highlighted on “Pests Management in Maize Plants” with special regard to stem borer. He said that the larvae of the stem borer cause damage by feeding on all parts of maize plants except roots. He mentioned various management practices to control such infestations biological and culturally.
