Mizo minister for development of NE

AIZAWL, March 3: Mizoram education minister Lalsawta today said that human resource development and peace are important instruments for social development in the north east region.
 The Mizo minister said whil delivering speech at a ‘National Seminar on Social Development in the North East’ started in Mizoram University in Aizawl on Thursday.
He added, “It is the task of the seminar participants to find a compromise between - socialism and capitalism; fast economic growth and the danger it caused to environment and ecology; faster transport system and fear of assimilation”. Lalsawta further said that Industrial Revolution in the 19th century ushered in a fast pacing economic progress, and with it disturbances in the environment and ecological balance. In this circumstance, North East cannot be a mute spectator, he added. He said that we should no longer lag behind in economic progress and must search for solutions to overcome the many peculiar problems we are facing.
 Michael Vethasiromani, director of Rajiv Gandhi National Institute for Youth Development, Sriperembadur  praised Mizoram for its serene, calm and non-polluted atmosphere and said that the corner-state of India has potentials to become the cornerstone-state of India. He explained the importance of good governance, peace and NGOs such as Young Mizo Association ( YMA ) for faster social development in Mizoram.  He said that development is a continual process, and that the quality of life such as - education, health, housing and happiness are important measurements of development.  He wished Mizoram University to be a man-making center rather than a mark-making center, and to be a transformation center and evaluator of various government’s policies.
Dr. H.K. Laldinpuii Fente, department of Psychology, Mizoram University hosted the inaugural function and Dr. J. Visuvathas Jeyasingh, Dean, School of Social Sciences, MZU gave the objectives of the seminar. Prof. A.K. Agarwal delivered the Presidential Address. He asked the youths to change their mindset and to take up more challenging jobs instead of leaving everything at the hands of the government.
Chief guest Lalsawta released a book, ‘Consumer Awareness and Consumer Protection’ edited by Dr. Srinibas Pathi, HOD, Deptt.of Public Administration, Mizoram University and Lalrintluanga, Associate Professor, Deptt.of Public Administration, Mizoram University. Michael Vethasiromani also released a journal ‘Contemporary Social Scientist’ today at the function.
